How to Clean Pet Vomit from Your Carpet the Easy Way
Step 3: Pre-Treat the Stain with Vinegar and Water Solution
For stains that are more stubborn, you’ll need a little more power than just baking soda. Create a simple solution by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. The vinegar will help break down the stain and neutralize any remaining odor.
Spray the vinegar solution generously over the stained area, but be careful not to oversaturate the carpet. You want the solution to penetrate the fibers without drenching the backing of the carpet. Let the solution sit for 5–10 minutes so it can break down the stain.
After allowing it to sit, gently blot the area with a clean cloth or paper towel to lift the stain. If needed, repeat this process until the stain is no longer visible.
Step 4: Use a Dish Soap Solution for a Deep Clean
After pre-treating the stain, you may still need to give the area a more thorough cleaning. A simple dish soap solution works well for this. Mix a few drops of mild dish soap with warm water in a bowl. Dip a soft-bristled brush or an old toothbrush into the solution.
Gently scrub the stained area using circular motions to lift any lingering vomit residue from the carpet fibers. Be cautious not to use too much water, as excess moisture can cause mold or damage the carpet’s backing. Once you’ve scrubbed the area, blot it with a clean towel to absorb the remaining soap and moisture.
