How to Clean Pet Vomit from Your Carpet the Easy Way
Step 1: Act Quickly and Remove the Bulk of the Vomit
As soon as you notice the vomit, act fast. The sooner you address the problem, the easier it will be to clean up. Put on your gloves to avoid direct contact with the vomit, then use a spoon or dustpan to scoop up any solid parts of the vomit. Be careful not to press the vomit deeper into the carpet fibers, as this will make it harder to clean.
Once you’ve removed the solid pieces, gently blot the affected area with paper towels or a clean cloth to soak up as much liquid as possible. Avoid rubbing, as this could push the vomit further into the carpet and spread the stain. Repeat the blotting process until you’ve removed most of the moisture.
Step 2: Apply Baking Soda to Absorb Moisture
Once you’ve blotted the excess moisture, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over the area. Baking soda is great for absorbing moisture and neutralizing odors. Let the baking soda sit for at least 10–15 minutes, allowing it to draw out any remaining liquid from the carpet fibers. If possible, let it sit longer, even up to an hour, for better results.
After the baking soda has had time to absorb the moisture, vacuum it up using your vacuum cleaner. This will not only remove the baking soda but also help lift any lingering particles of vomit.
